Compacting Text Files

Is there a way to 'compact' a text file? I am writing out a text file in an app and it's a LOT larger than it should be for the text that is in it.

You could save it as a .txt file, which will be smaller than a .doc file, or something like that. You might be able to create a kind of 'zip' for it. -- Good luck.
