I am going to try to compact our priv.edb at work. Our Exchange Server is running with SP3. I have read that I need to have the same amount of free space as the size of the priv.edb, for a temp file to use. We do not have this amount of free space on the drive. Can I use a switch to specify that the temp file is created on another drive?

Many thanks in advance,

Nick W.

There is a utility to compact the .edb file on another computer. It has been discussed in this forum in the last few months - try a search.

You can run the eseutil with a -t switch I believe and then specify where to rebuild the DB.
The other times I have used the -t switch have not been pretty. It just didn't like rebuilding the DB across the network and then copying it back to the Exchange server.
Bad luck every time!

To do an OffLine Defragmentaion of the .PRIV or .PUB databases, the best and most secure way is to stop the Information Store service, copy the .Priv or .Pub database to another directory, run Eseutil /d. After the defrag is complete, rename the original file Priv.edbold, copy the new defrag .edb in to the directory and run isinteg -patch.

Thanks chaps, I'll test a few of these and see what happens.
