Compacting Database Warning Message

I want to compact a database and every attempt results in the message, "in use by another user" but I am the user and I can't continue. Any ideas how to get out of this?

I would try to open Access Exclusively and then Compact your DB. Let me know if you need help on how to open a db exclusively.
