I am experiencing a renaming of one of my business mail databases from the .nsf to a .TMP when my weekly complaction runs. This just started a week ago and is becoming a regular occurance. I receive the following message in the logs.

"Unable to rename e:\notes\data\MAIL\<filename.tmp> back to e:\notes\data\MAIL\<filename.nsf>: Database is currently in use by you or another user - You must rename it yourself"

Anyone else experience this? anyone have a solution?

which version of notes/domino are you using?

in R4 it does 'copy-style' compaction, where the db's renamed to .tmp and then copied into a new one, leaving out the empty space left behind by deleted documents etc.

in R5 the default is to do 'inplace' compaction. but it can still do copy style, by adding specific parameters, like -c or -D for more info check the admin help db.

I am using Domino 5.0.10 on Win NT mail servers. This problem only seems to happen on one particular database.
