I am fairly new to the world of phone systems, and am working with a Nortel system for the first time. I have run into a problem with a Compact ICS 4.0 with M7310 telephones. While changing telephone numbers for line 3 I lost the audible ring on line 3 only. Line 3 was ringing fine with the old #, But with the new # I have no audible ring. I have dial tone and can call in and out. The arrow flashes for line 3 when a call is coming in, but no audible ring. I first thought it was a blown fuse. Since this is the first time I dealt with a Nortel system I can't find any changeable fuses for this system. Does it have fuses and where are they located? I'm not if this is a programming issue or a problem with the system it's self. I feel like there is a simple solution, but since I have very limited time in this field, I'm stumped. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Go into system programming, terminals and sets, show set, enter ext number, press show for line access, press show for line assignment, press show to show line. You should have a scan button, press it, this will show the lines assigned to the set, you want it to say appear and ring for each line number, if it doesn't press change until it does.

Thank you for the advice. I'll try it Monday and let you know.

The direction seem right until I enter the extension #. After I enter the extension # when I press show I can't find anything about line access or line assignments, all I get is capabilities. What am I doing wrong? Please help if you can.

Your not using the installer password, sounds like the admin password permissions.

Is there any way to find out what that password is since the person who installed this system is long gone, or am I screwed?

Is this something that can be done from any phone or only from the CAP?

The system can be programmed from any 7310, 7316, or 7324. You can either wipe out the system, and reprogram from scratch, or get a Nortel tech to crack the config password for you. I don't know how big your cics is, so the choice would be yours. I would try the simple passwords if the default has been changed, like your main phone number or the guys name, or 123456 or other easy ones.

Thank you phoneguy427 I cracked the code and all is well.
I appreciate your help.
