I haven't been successful in formating compact flash drives with the Nortel format tool. Are there secrets that I haven't figured out yet? I would like to be able to format compact flash drives for backup of Option 11 systems and the larger Option 61 and 81 systems. I think there are Compact Flash size issues with most of the older Operating Systems.

Not a secret per se, but you should use 1 gig or less Sandisk compact flash. I even had a Nortel one go bad and we fixed it by using DOS and issuing a chkdsk /f

Good luck! We haven't used the 'fixed' one in our system just because I don't trust it, but it does hold files just fine :)

Here is my tip

For the SSC systems, use the Nortel programming tool to format PCMCIA / Compact flash cards up to a maximum of 128 Meg.

Or format them to FAT using a Windows 95 / 98 or better still any digital camera that supports CF cards such as the Cannon A70 etc. This is what I use for all of my CF cards.

All the best
