When I try to compact the access file, the following error message is shown: "Can't read the records. You don't have the rights to read the data of
....\abc.mdb".

If I look in the directory after I tried to compact the tables, I will see that Access automatically created a databasefile named db1.mdb. If I open the file I find the compacted tables in there. So Access did compact the tables, but made a new file of it.

Why it happened? I wanna automatically compact the file every morning. If I have to change the name by hand each time, it is not convenient.

Could someone help me? every reply will be appreciated.

Hi

Teh way in which compact 'normaly' works is to create a new db (typically db1) conatining teh compacted db, when the compact is finished, teh orginal db is deleted and the new one (db1) is renamed to the same name as the original.

It looks like you have a permissions problem which is preventing Access from deleting the original, hence it cannot rename the 'new' database, check your permissions in the folder containing abc.mdb

Hi,thanks for your reply but I already looked at the
permissions in the folder containing abc.mdb and found nothing. What else can I do?
