We have been trying to get Exchange Data Migrator out to about 10K users for about 4-5 months now and have had problem after problem with this whole product. We are way behind schedule and now looking at removing the product and going with some other data archive "migrate" solution.
My question to you guys and gals:

How many use this product?
If so, how large is your installation?
If you could do anything different, would you?
Do you use custom Outlook migrate icons?
Do you use the DM for public folders?
Do you use the Content Index feature?
How robust did you build your DM environment?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'm in the planning phase with Exchange Data Migrator now. What types of problems are you having? I plan to migrate aged messages on 2 different Exchange servers for a total of approximately 700 mailboxes. It will be migrated to a SATA array which will have tape copies made via aux copies.

What problems...ohh that is a huge question. We purchased the product in June of 2005 and still do not have a working product. We decided to use a custom icon for our users, this is still not working due to Outlook 2003 cache mode.
The OWA connetion is still not working either and now have passed the fault on to MS for some reason.
We are migrating 4 servers in a 3+1. We have about 10K mailboxes. We had problems with just about every aspect of the product so far.
Centralized Content Index
Public folders
The DM client
Many others that I don't have time to name.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this many issues or is it just us.

Are you tryingto do this yourself or have you got prof services in?

DMEX is usually quite good.

We have had the product for the last couple of years but have been unable to install it as it did not like the cached mail profiles on our laptops and also some of our clients were using outlook 97.

On looking at Version 6.1 seemingly they have fixed a lot of the problems with laptop users and OWA.

Has anybody had any Joy with datamigrator on version 6.1

Yes, Commvault has been out here 3 times. We spend every day on the phone with them for the past 3 months.

6.1 does not fix some of the cache mode issues with custom forms. If you use a custom icon, the icon will not show up in Outlook until the end user opens the custom form first or performs thier first migration.
Just stuff like that seems have never been tested in the product before it was release. The amount of hotfixes "WE" have recieved over the past few months is crazy and has shown that there was NO QA done to the product before they released it.

Check out the thread:

they push out releases to meet deadlines and take a "patch later" attitude. they think spending time with each bug and giving you fast patches will make up for the amount of problems going out the door. this will continue as long as your manager is happy with the product. hey, they put the features in fast and fix bugs fast, what more could you want? they made 15 hotfixes, just for us! now that is customer service!
