Receiving the following error when I try to run a restore using commvault.

Failed to send control message to the CVD on client "(commserve)"

The email galaxy is sending me states failed to retrieve host info.

I'm able to backup data on several different servers, but anytime I try to run the restore I get the above.

Hi

Network comms ok (reverse dns, no firewalls etc)?

Also is there more than 1 nic on the client?

Yes, DNS is all good, and it has multiple nics but the additional nics are disabled. There is no firewall between the commserve and client. I'm not entirely sure what the CVD is, but I would guess that it's maybe the Commvault Database.. What would make it possible for me to backup a server but not restore it?

You may want to setup Data Interface Pairs to dictate the interface to be used during the back. CV is heavy on names resolution and I have seen this come to haunt me before.

Check and see if you have any confilcting host file entries

CVD is the CommVault Daemon - the main process of CommVault. CV was originally written for UNIX - hence the daemon name.

As for your problem, it seems as though the restore job process can't connect back to the CommServe CVD - perhaps your CommServe is stressed CPU >90%?? Check the restore job log files for specific errors, they are a wealth of info but a PITA to trawl through.

also run the QIConnect.exe from the base dir and see if the services are connecting between the media agent and the client
