We have commvault galaxy 4.20 service packed, installed on a server backing up a NAS 825 filer to a HP MSL6000 tape libray. The backups started off takking approx 2.5 hours to back up approx 130GB of data which was great. Unfortunatley the next backup took 14 hours. It appears that SQl is hanging on to the memory after the backup and not releasing it for the next job. This is solved if we reboot the server. But we can't do this before every new backup job.

Any suggestions appreciated, as Commvault not being very helpful.

Sorry i can't help you with your problem.

For your support issue with Commvault we have expierenced the same problems, it takes a long time before you get an answer that realy helps, and before that you have to send them all log-files 2 or 3 times.

And if you use products that are'nt made by Microsoft (i.e. Netware, Solaris, Oracle) the support is even worse!

Galaxy is a good product but the support of Commvault is poor!

If PC's where simple,

Who needs us? :)

Wow .. I'm surprised that CommVault takes forever to get back to you guys. Our site has never experienced problems of that sort.

As to the SQL issue, I recall some memory leak issues in versions previous to 4.2.0. My advice is to get CommVault's latest SP3 loaded onto the CS and MA's then on your server that has SQL.

Folliwng that, go up onto the Maintenance Advantage Web-site andtake a look for any hotfixes that may have come out since mid-September.

Good Luck! ;)
