Exchange 2003 backup fails

Might be a stupid question, but have you made sure that the index cache directory was accessible and that the indexing MediaAgent services were running at the time of the error?

yes all mediaagent services were running and the cache directory is fully accessible. It is only exchange which is failing, all other jobs/servers complete with no problems.

Have you rebooted Exchange?

Hi there

Can you try a FULL backup. It will create a new Index.

It turned out to be a corrupt mailbox. we subdivided the mail store backup till we found 1 mailbox that it continually failed on.
deleted and created a new mailbox and all is well again.
