Communication link failure

i'm trying to start up the sqlserver. it shows 'establishing connection to the d'base...' then comes up with this error messasge 'communication link failure ConnectionWrite(WaitForSingleObject())

Help!!!

U didn't specify the version of sql server and OS, please be clear on this.

If it is a local sql server try using . or pc name to connect to sql server

Did the setup go properly? or is the network protocal installed properly...

i'm using MS SQLSERVER 7.0, my os is Windows98. the program was installed and running successfully until last week

Did you happen to change your computer name after you installed SQL Server 7.0? If so, you need to either change the computer name back to the original name or update SQL Server so that it will recognize the new computer name.
