I want to send PDF's around to co-workers for review comments. The PDF's are created using the distiller out of Word 2000. When I open them in the reader (Ver 5) to check them the notes icons are grayed out and comments are not available. They look OK in Acrobat (also ver 5) but since everyone else only has the reader they will have to work with it. I've checked the accessibility menus and tried many different settings -- all with the same result. Anyone know the secret?

You can SEE the comments in Reader, can't you? Reader doesn't support authoring new comments, but you should be able see comments created in the full Acrobat product.

Acrobat has a Reader with Extensions (or something like that), which allows you to create PDFs that support commenting/review through Reader 6.0. You pay a fee for each PDF you create, I think.

Well - I thought the way it worked was that I would create the doc in the writer and enable comments. Then I would sent it out and the next person could add their comments using the reader. Then I could incorporate the comments in the final version of the doc. Maybe the deal is that you can't enter comments from the reader. But I think that is happening because some switch is not set somewhere in the original doc and the reader needs it to enable commets.

No, you cannot create comments in Reader. Sorry. No switch in the document exists for this; that's the way Adobe wrote the Reader.

Check the help file in reader 6 page 43. I think it's the same for ver-5. It's says you can add note comments.

It says you can, but can you? That would be news to me! It says to open the commenting toolbar, but I don't see that as an option in Reader 6.0.

Yeah -- that's true -- reader 6 did not have those icons but reader 5 does. Maybe the Adobe guys got the thing reversed. I checked the plug-ins in reader 5 and the comments plug-in is active. Still a mystery????
