How do I determine what kind of existing DAL board is in a S87XX server, please?

Well, if it's an S8710, its definitly a DAL1, as DAL2's where never offered in an S8710. If its an old S8700, its also a DAL1. If you have an S8720, it could be either one, however, its probably a DAL1, unless its very, very new. If its an S8730, then its absolutley a DAL2, as that is all that was ever offered in the new S8730.

You can also tell from the release, if its a CM3 or older S8720, its a DAL1, as the DAL2 is newer, and wasn't out with CM3.

You can also tell be looking at the back of the card, the DAL2 uses the miniST connectors, while the older DAL1 uses the larger, cllunkier full size ST connectors.
