I need to be able to find out the barcodes of the tapes in a given media pool, theres several servers per library each using its own device group, however when tapes are removed for offsite storage, they don't always get put back into the slots corresponding with the correct device group upon their return, I'm looking to script detecting it occuring. I'm already making use of "tapetest -mediainfo" to tell me which tapes are in which slots, i need to know which tapes are in which pools without running asmgr and looking manually.
There is one potential problem with using Media Pools for that. Media Pool only tracks the sequince # 1 tape. Any span tapes are not included in the media pool. So once you have a job that spans you also have tapes that will not show up.
Perhaps a simple low tech solution is the best here. Just keep a physical record of which group each tape goes in. That record can then be kept in a list attached to the library and also noted on the barcode on each tape. You could even color code them, for example Group 0 = blue. So even a half asleep operator should be able to get it right and a quick look in the magazines will show if all the tapes in the slots for Group 0 have the blue mark.
