command line based instant messenger

Does anyone know of a command line based instant messenger?

I saw a post on the waptunnel yahoo group about using a command line based instant messenger to setup a wap interface to instant messaging. Or in other words, a command line instant messenger could be used in a cgi script to provide web based access to instant messenger, without using applets.

Anyone heard of such a thing? I saw mention of it on source forge, but the project was only in planning and looked dead to me (was created in 2002 and still in planning).

you might want to check out centericq - as well as being a curses based IM i'm pretty sure it has scripting facilities too.
