Hi all,

Going off an install I did like a year ago but I'm about to do a bunch of upgrades and was just interested in what others thought.

Existing IPO was Release 8.0.x or 8.1.x, has a combo card, digital station card and like 10 extensions. I bought the Upgrade license and upgraded the IPO to 9.1.x. After the upgrade the Combo card was lit solid red. Fast forward to resolution; I replaced with a newly purchased Combo card and it came up and worked fine.

Question:
Is there 1st Generation and 2nd Generation versions of the cards?
Obviously I had an older Combo card originally. Do the older Combo cards not work with R9.0/R9.1 and higher?
How do you distinguish between a 1st Generation and 2nd Generation card?
If I am upgrading all my older systems from R8.x.x to R10.1.x will I have to purchase all new Combo cards for all of them?

Thanks

Derek

There are V1 and V2 combocards. V1 worked on earlier releases then the V2 (dont remember exact release each started working). The main difference is the V1 or V2 ATM card on it. That being said either should work just fine on R9.0 or R9.1.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Did you upgrade to 8.1(65) or later before going to 9.1?

I don't believe I upgraded to 8.1.65 first AACon. I think I went straight to R9.0/9.1. So if I would have went to R8.1.65 first, I wouldn't have had to replace the card?

If you buy a R10.1 upgrade License, can you go to R8.1.65 first and then go to R10.1? OR do I have to buy an upgrade license to go to R8.1.65 and then another upgrade license to go to R10.1?

Platform Current Release Upgrade Step 1 Upgrade Step 2
IP500 V2 8.1.0.0 and earlier Load 8.1.1.0 or 9.0 Load 9.1

Yes you can buy a 10.1 licence and upgrade to anything below 10.1. The upgrade licence just needs to cover higher or equal to what you want to run.

Just spoke with my distributor.

He said their is no specific part number for a R10.1 Upgrade license like with R9.1. He said we have to do the License migration process, send the XML file and Avaya charges us according to the ADI/PLDS licenses I am migrating.

Is that correct?

If it is, how do I upgrade to R8.1.65 first, so that the Combo card can get the necessary firmware to allow it to work on R10.1 without a R10.1 software license?

change working directory pointed to the location of 8.1.65 bin files

Understood, but how do I do that without an upgrade license preset?

well you will need an upgrade license, what release are you going to, if 10.x you upgrade to 10 the through plds you will add the license as earlier releases will not give you an option for plds only adi
