Hi, I want to create a selection process, much like the Winodws 95/98/200 program menu.

Basicallly I have two main categories that the user can pick when selecting a problem type.
When they choose one of the categories, I want a new selection to appear based on what they chose. Ideally this would be juct like the Windows program menu, whereby they hold the mouse over a selction, and the sub-selection then pops up allowing them to choose.
Otherwise, just a selection of combo boxes could be used that relate to each other.

can anyone tell me how this is done (in very basic steps - as I am not very skilled at coding etc!)

Thanks for your help,
Matt

hello.

can anyone help with this?
It is quite urgent.

any ideas of suggestions would be VERY gratefully received!

Matt

The simplest way to achieve what you want is to use either two combo boxes, two list boxes or one of each. The second combo/list box will show the related values to the first box.

Have a look at the download db on Microsoft Knowledge Base. It has a lot of good samples of working with forms and controls, specifically one called "Synchronising two combo boxes on a control"

Good Luck :-9

Look into Treeview and listview controls. These are the combination most frequently used to achieve this. They can "easily"? be set up to be very similay to the explorer interface.

where are these controls?
I looked in the online help in Access, but couldn't find Treeview or listview things...
I need hand-in-hand walkthroughs, cos I as thick as two short planks!!!

they are active X controls. Add them from Components, add (I think). On the otherhans, I am not able to dh the holding-hands thing, so perhaps you would be better off with a different 'partner'.

I tried that sample database, but I am using Access 2000, and it didn't work.

I was hoping to have one combo box, that I used, as there could be a few 'subcategories' and having a whole row of combo boxes would not look very good.

I'll have a look into those Active X controls..

I want to use combo box performing the search function. for example: when I click on one item listed on combo box, then click a command button like "go" or "search", then I can open the form in which the records I want are. Does anybody knows if I can do this by using Microsoft Access 97? and how?

Thanks a lot for any help!
