I only have one NIC. When I first installed the SBS, we had dynamic IP. Then a couple of months ago, we changed to static IP w/ Verizon and then a few weeks ago, we registered a domain name so we could use Remote Web workplace. I reran the CEIW last week, and lost internet connection from server. When I change the TCP/IP settings to the correct DNS and restore the internet connection on the server (workstations can still connect), then the companyweb cannot be displayed. I feel really lost right now. This is my first SBS installation (it is for my brother's business). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

What did you change the "correct" DNS to be?

The server should point at itself for DNS, and should have forwarders configured in the DNS admin tool to forward queries to the ISP's DNS servers.

If the server isn't pointed at itself for DNS, or if the clients aren't pointed at the server, you are likely to have issues getting to companyweb. If you already know this, I'm sorry.

Thanks ShackDaddy. I did not know I needed to configure forwarders. As I said this is my first experience with SBS. I am trying to read everything I can, but I often feel lost, so having folks like you here to point in the right direction is very helpful and much appreciated.

You don't always have to configure forwarders, but it's often helpful. Normally your server has something called a "root hints" file that it loads. That file gives it the IP addresses of the main DNS namespace root servers and allows your server to make all its queries on its own. Since it's easier to set up a forwarder than to figure out if your root hints is broken/non-existent, I suggested setting up the forwarders. Glad I could help.

Ok, I checked and my DNS forwarder appears to be set correctly (and I did not make any changes), but Companyweb still will not display. Am I missing something?

What system are you trying to connect to Companyweb from? If it's a client, is that client configured to point at your SBS server for DNS? And is the client workstation joined to the domain?

When you go to the command-line and "ping companyweb" does the name resolve, or not? When you type "nslookup" from a client, does it mention your server's IP address, or does it mention some other server's IP?

Have you made sure that your server ONLY points to itself as a DNS client?
