Com Port already open

Hi ppl
I have a modem installed in a Server that can't be restarted very often. The problem is that the "DTR" led is "ON" and when I try to access de modem I receive the message "Port already open".
How can I release de com port without having to restart the server.
Note: turning off and on the modem doesn't solve the problem

Have you tried querying the modem to see if there any anomalies? You might have the wrong driver installed, or the modem manufacturer may have a newer driver released compatible with a recent Service Pack you may have added afterwards.

Check to make sure that any terminal software you are using is not taking that port for its own use. We had the same problem here at work.

Have you checked for malware such as trojans and hijackers? You antivirus software will not search for these issues. Use faq608-4650
