Colour options Windows 98

Hi All

A friend of mine has a pc which someone has been messing around with. He can't get the 256 colour option back onto the screen, it is only allowing 16bit or 2 colours in the option list.

Can anyone tell me how to get this back?

sounds like he needs to reinstall the graphics card drivers (he's operating on the basic VGA driver).

thanks wolluf, I kind of thought that might be the case but wanted to check before I tried to play around with it and resolve it.
