Hi

Have inherited an old Windows 98 machine with T3000 tape unit.

It seems to be installed ok and it whirs away for a while when doing a test backup, saying it's finding the start of the tape. It eventually says it can't write to the media - which is a Travan 3 tape, C4427 (have tried a few others, but same result). Nothing obvious like write protection.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Which software package? Was this an upgraded W95box? An upgrade should have replaced the version of MSBackup if that is what you are using and there may be an update as well to W98's version. This does sound like a software compatibility problem. Make sure the tape isn't write protected by the lock on the cassette.
