color setting on monitor

when i turn on my computer, before windows appears a
message says my color setting is wrong, when i try to change the color setting the only option it will give me is 16 colors, it is supposed to be 256 color setting, can anyone help me?

Sounds like a video card driver problem. Have you installed/added video cards recently? I would go to the manufacturer's website and download new drivers. If your monitor won't give you the option to change, it's likely because it doesn't know it's capable. That is my guess.
