Color change of a cell based on another cells info.

Hello All,

I would like to know the easiest and possibly simplest way to make a cell change its' color based on another cells info.

The scenario is this:
Cell 1A must have a number in it in order for Cell 1B to allow input.
If a number is input into Cell 1B then it should change color, if Cell 1A has no number.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hello mpIII,
I'm assuming you are using Excel.
Have you used "Conditional Formatting"?

This allows you to have a cell value or formatting be changed based on a condition.

Hi StoryTeller,

I have been looking at all of the posts on conditional formatting and don't see how I can apply it to another cell based on a different cells info.

It seems it is based on one cell and one cell only.
If Cell 1A is 1 then do this. How could I tell Cell 1A to do "this" if Cell 1B has the correct info.

Oh, I am using Excel 2000 and am looking to apply the color change to color- fill the cell.

The Conditional Formatting dialog box has the following fields:
<Cell Value> <condition> then the next field over is where you enter a criteria. Now do you see the small button at the right side of the field, the one with the little red arrow. Click on it then select the cell you want to refer to ($B$1) then click on the little red down arrow.

That is something I did not know you could do.
