Can someone point me in the right direction on how to set up a collection based on computers in an OU? Specifically what 'Resource Class' and 'Attribute Name' and the syntax for the doman\OU to use as a Value?

All my collections are manually created with the list of computer names and I think its about time I group my servers into OUs and maintain the structure there.

select SMS_R_System.ResourceID, SMS_R_System.ResourceType, SMS_R_System.Name, SMS_R_System.SMSUniqueIdentifier, SMS_R_System.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup, SMS_R_System.Client from SMS_R_System where SystemOUName = "Domain.com/OU"

O man ... That might be on the properties of your collection but that doesn't help me create mine with my little experience in this area.

Holy chit ... that was totaly awesome!! I had no idea there were any training blogs out there. Do you know where i can find anymore training blogs?

Yea I tried learnsms.com when the site was starting out about a year ago. I hope it has gotten better ... i wasn't that impressed.

Thank-you very much for the info!

Still have a little problem ...

So I've created a query like such:

Criterion type: Simple vaule
Where: System Resource - System OU Name

Operator: is equal to
Value: Domain.com/OU/OU/OU/OU/OU ...

But the clients are not showing up in the collection after updating the membership although I do have two computers (so far) in the OU. I also don't see the OU in the list of Values that i can select from on the drop down menu so this is where the problem could lie. So i cut the path from the OU properties in AD Users and Computers - Canonical name of object (to ensure i got the syntax correct). And I can also see the OU when I did a "dsquery ou".

As a test i selected an OU from the list of values and got those computers in the collection ... but not the one that did not show up in the list of values.

As a further note I noticed more OU's that are not showing up in the list of values during the query creation. Is there a way I can sync up SMS with Active Directory?

You can change the synch schedule from the Active Directory discovery. The script is correct because I copied directly from my server. I have all my OU showing up.

Do you have any collection where any computer is showing up? Maybe you have to troubleshoot your Active Directory discovery. Did you schema changes got configured correctly?

My Active Directory polling schedule was set for once a day. I did a 'Run discovery as soon as possible' yesterday and today I can see the computers in that OU.

Thanks for your assistance!
