Hy folks,how are you today?
I have a machine that has 2 processor, 6GB RAM, 300GB HDD with win 2k svr installed and i want to know how is gonna be the performance of vmware-gsx-server version 3.2.0

It's gonna be pretty good.. but... you gotta ask yourself.. what am I gonna run on the GSX? DOS machines, Linux machines, Linux with GUI's, Windows, Vista, W2k3 servers with 100+ users??

Sorry, hit submit before I actually answered your question.

I have used earlier editions of GSX on Win2k and performance was OK; the same hardware running ESX3 definitely performs much better. I used the GSX server for doing the proof of concept for a vmware deployment and ran a couple of servers on it for a few weeks.

@Terrywilson:

Yeah, obviously, but GSX prolly isn't as expensive as ESX. Besides, wasn't GSX already followed up by the (free) VMware Server version?

I'm taking a wild guess here that the GSX server won't be used for dedicated VMware use.. else I agree that ESX would be the better -but more expensive, probably- choice.

FWIW.. I've seen big performance hits with GSX in single drive or raid 1 machines. I've gotten better performance using raid 5.

(yay! shameless advertising. my side business)
