I've been struggling with an instance of SQL Server tools on my PC for a month now. Finally uninstalled and reinstalled this morning and still haven't been able to fix the problem.
From Enterprise Manager, anytime I change the structure of a table, attempting to save the table changes results in the following message (with all columns from table displayed in message). If I select 'Yes', I get an ODBC failure error with varying strange SQL syntax errors.
=====================================================
Changes were made in the database while you were working. Do you want to update the database and override these changes to match yours?
========================================================
Table 'Tablename' has changed:
- Data type property of column 'columnid' was changed and will be modified.
- Data type property of column 'columnname' was changed and will be modified.
. . .
========================================================
So I saved the SQL, and saw that there was garbage in the collation portion of the SQL statements. Upon reviewing the items in design-view again, I could set the collation back to database default, and the table would be saved with changes (although the message shown above still shows).
I can run a script from Query Analyzer to change table structure without any problems at all. I can logon to co-workers PC and do everything from Enterprise Manager without any problems.
Questions:
1) How can I get rid of the collation corruption problem?
2) How can I get the above message to stop displaying (no one else is changing these tables concurrently with me).
Thanks,
Kris
