Hopefully someone can answer quickly. I came here when I found out that Adobe required several hundred dollar fees for technical support. Wow.

So, I'm trying to help improve the efficiency of a small design team producing a monthly magazine. The problem is that the magazine is being stored in an indesign document file, and multiple designers need to work on that file at the same time. Is there some plugin or program (or ANYTHING) that would allow one designer to work on one page (or even portion of a page) while another designer works on another part of the SAME document?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We have a thing called Version Cue that came as part of Creative Suite 1 premium that is for some sort of collaboration or something. As you can see by my knowledge of it, we never used it. If you have creative suite, you might look tosee if version cue is on the cd.

We just keep a text box on the left side of the pastebord with a record of who did what to each page. The main doc is just kept on a mac machine that we have set up as sort of a file server - just sharing - and the people pull the doc from there and then replace itm keeping a copy on their own machine.

Hmm, maybe I know less than I think, but I've looked a lot at Version Cue, and it appears to only help organize files. It does tell you if someone else has the same document open, but it doesn't appear to allow to users to change a document simultaneously.

Have you looked at InCopy?

You could also use the book feature of InDesign and break up each section of the magazine into its own INDD file.

Adobe has some heavier duty stuff for sale. You might try downloading a trial of InCopy

Version Cue only tracks changes (aka 'versions') of files by saving incremental copies and noting what user has made changes. It really has no collaborative editing capabilities in your situation.
