I need solid information on:

1) If Coldfusion 5.0 and CR 8.0 will effectively talk to each other.

This does not seem to be supported in any clear documentation at Seagate/Crystal Decisions or Macromedia.
<cfreport> is questionable at best.

What are the alternatives?

Yes, this is one of the many "dead ends" I find. It seems people are successful with this effort using ASP and VB --there is plenty of info out on that. But I'm looking at ColdFusion.

Scenario:
CF5 server (soon to be MX)
CF5 studio (soon to be MX)
Seagate Info.7.5 (soon to be SE9)
Crystal Reports 8 (soon to be 9 via SE)

ColdFusion app to pass parameters for use with a viewer/browser/crystalweb...

Got .dll on server, using sample script to see sample report links in a browser.

NEED HELP...

That article seems to state that CR 8 works with CF 5, not sure what you're referring to, check the matrix. And if you're moving to SE9 (do you mean CE 9?), why do you care about CR 8?

I worked on a CF project a while back and the CF developer had a rough time understanding how to use CR 8 correctly, and I'm not sure which version of CF, but once I D/L'd sample code he managed nicely.

sorry, not to sound unappreciative, but integrating CR into a ColdFusion app has been a wild goose chase. I'll need more than a reference to the crystal decision Web site to move on this.

I'm considering using crystal to programmatically accomplish this task.

I need to restrict data access to certain groups (6 - 250 groups). I was thinking of prompting for a userid/passwd, if it matches app security userid/psswd (in CF/oracle) and their name falls within a certain group (which I must create in crystal) let them respond to other prompts and run their respective report(s).

The access to data would be based on the value of the group that I create in crystal and match up with the group value in oracle.

Is this a good idea? I really need some help on this. Just spinning my wheels and the clock is ticking...
