Cognos8 on II7

Has anyone been able to get Cognos8 running on II7. I have Vista Ultimate. Whilst I no Cognos8 is not officially supported on this platform, it should still work .

C8 installs just fine so long as you install as administrator. When I try and run Cognos8 on II7 it is asking to download 'cognos.xtsstartwel=no'. Nothing happens from here...

I must have some security/configuration parameters wrong. Help would be greatly appreciated as I'm not an IIS expert!

Why dont' you just use a supported environment? I think it is a bit foolhardy to use Vista, which is unsupported as well as IIS 7 which is also unsupported..

I can't imagine that you will be doing much with this environment you are setting up if you are setting it up in an unsupported env.

If that is the case, why don't you do this:

-go into the webcontent directory on the gateway machine.
-select all and copy everything within the webcontent directory.
-go into webapps/p2pd (on application tier machines) and paste.
-go into cognos configuration and copy the dispatcher URI.
-Paste the dispatcher URI into a browser. You shoud see a full blown cognos connection without having to worry about a webserver.

Nice tip misscognos.

As for production environments; do not use this trick.
Using the dispatcher as a webserver bypasses the Cognos Application Firewall. Use a supported setup.

true enough.. but as i said.. i can't imagine they are going to do much with this environment.. ie it is probably not a prod environment given that they are using an unsupported env.

If your getting a msgbox to download the file instead of it opening, you need to make sure that turn on cgi execution/extensions on iis7, I know by defaults its off in win2003, so its probably the same for vista as well. Turn that on and it should solve your initial.

Was there any update on this?
I downloaded v8.3 which is said to work under vista, but still has issues.

I configured iis7 so that at least I see the cognos webpage, but it gets me an error under the administration part.

Would love to hear if anyone got a bit further???
