I'm running two .imr reports that output to a file on the scheduler. But everytime they run, it opens up an Impromptu window. I looked all over for an option to have it not do that (or at least close it after it's done) but couldn't find such a thing. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Sidenote: I'm new to Cognos.

Thanks

We were all once new to Cognos and its little ways. I use Scheduler quite a lot, but make it call macros to do what I think you want. The documentation for macros is fairly average, but in this case you should be able to crib something. I'm going off-site tomorrow, so if you have problems and no-one else jumps in to help, post a response and I'll see what I can do when I return.

I was really close to asking for further assistance, but I finally figured out how to get the macro to work. Thanks for the point in the right direction!

Well done. Macros can't do everything but they can add another dimension to the capabilities of Cognos reporting. Look through this forum for some wonderful ideas especially from my No 1 man Dave Griffin, who seems to devote a significant portion of his life supporting this forum!

I had the same problem in the past and contacted the Cognos support desk who replied that, from version 6, this is a new feature. If you don't like this you can change this in the Cognos.ini. In case you need to knoz more please let me know. I have the mail from the Cognos support desk somewhere in my mailbox in the office.

Further, after having used the scheduler to launch IMR's (to print reports, to create files) I now use small scripts (made with Cognos script editor). This is a very flexible tool with nice features and worthwhile to try out.

I hope this answer helps you.

Simon,

While I may appear to be overly active in this forum, there are members of other fora that have contributed 20 times the number of posts that I have done over the same period. Those people need to get a life!

Please don't stop!! It was in no way a criticism. I just marvel that you and other people find time to do your business and also provide such a wonderful altruistic service to these forums. I wholeheartedly agree with you about anyone who has 20 times the number of posts as you; it would be interesting to know what they do with what is left of their waking life.

i have had the same problem.
i was given a macro to run in the command line.
this is where you create a job in scheduler, then set the date /time etc,the next tab is save as file type and where.
if you tick the command line and inset the file the window will close after the job has run.take a look at my problem 20/03/2003
hope it helps
it did for me
e-mail me and i'll send you the file.
