Hi ALL

I am new to Cognos ReportNet and I am trying to install ReportNet1.1 on Windows 2000

Professional system with Oracle 9i database on the same system.

I follwoing the steps in the Cognos documentation.

1.I installed the software
2.I copied class12.zip to the specified location and renamed it to calsses12.jar
3.Set the class path for Java_home(C:\Program Files\cognos\crn\bin\jre\1.3.1)
4.I created the required Virtual directories..and also given the required privileges.
5.I configured the Cognos Configuration in content manager by giving SID and user id and pwd(I
used Scott/Tiger default user)

When I am trying to view the localhost page i am getting the IIS default page only..I am not
able to see the cognos reportNet pages...

I don't have any java running on my system, I am using the one with I will get after installin

the ReportNet1.1 software.

Do i need to do any thing else..to complete my ReportNet installation..I mean do i need to do

any ZIP or unzip or kind of things to class12.zip...etc..

Please let me know how i can go a head..with Installation of Cognos ReportNet1.1

thanks in advance...

Hi now I downloaded the latest JER and installed..it seems its working..

But now I have a new problem. When i browse the am getting an error saying

"The Cognos BI server is not available"

I tried to fix this using the Cognos manual ...but i could not..Also I not able tolocate the log file (crnserver.txt)
file in the specified directory///?

What could be the problem?

Pleae help...

Either the reportnet service is not started, or your content store creation was not succesfull.
You will find clue's on this in:
C:\Program Files\Cognos\crn\logs\crnserver.log

Does Scott/Tiger have enough rights, to create tables and stuff? (lookup the needed oracl eaccess rights for the user in the manual)
Most easy is to create a new user, make him dba during reportnet install, and decrease the rights after succesfull datastore creation.

Hi Stefan..

Thansk for ur reply..But I could not locate the log file under C:\Program Files\Cognos\crn\logs\crnserver.log..

I even searched for the file in the system..Do you think, it happens if ReportNet server did not start?

When i do the configuration, evey think is working succssfully...and even i am getting the crn page in the browser...

What could be the proble?

Venkat

Hi ..
The cognos services are started and i am able to see the logs.
When I browse the crn page am getting the following error.

"DPR-ERR-2058 The dispatcher cannot service the request at this time. The dispatcher is still initializing. Contact your administrator if this problem persists"

Here I checked the database user for the required tables. But here i could able to see only 3 tables...
CMCAPACITY CMDBTEST CMSYSPROPS..I was told that there will be 119 tables..after we run the content store..
So i think here is the problem..

I created a user with DBA provileges..and using for this..
Will thsi role will be sufficient ? or do i need to do any thing else?

thanks..

Check Reportnet Installation manual page 28.

Basically it saying the following:
Steps for Oracle
1. If you use Oracle 8.1.7, ensure that the compatibility level parameter of the content store is set to 8.1 and not to the default setting of 8.0. For information about changing an instance configuration parameter, see the Oracle documentation.
2. Determine if the database is Unicode. Tip: One method is to type the following select statement:
select * from NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS
The result set returns NLS_CHARACTERSET is UTF-8 or UTF-16, or AL32UTF8 or AL16UTF16, or not Unicode.
3. If the result set returns an NLS_CHARACTERSET that is not Unicode, create a new database.
• For Oracle 8.1.7, ensure that you specify UTF-8 or UTF-16 for the database character set parameters.
• For Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g, specify AL32UTF8 or AL16UTF16 for the database character set parameters.

4. Determine which user account ReportNet will use to access the content store.

5. Ensure that the user account that accesses the content store has permissions to do the following:

• connect to the database
• create, alter, and drop tables, triggers, views, procedures, and sequences
• insert, update, and delete data in the content store tables

When we first installed, we had issues with incomplete table creation. Be sure to follow the directions for your database regarding user temporary space. Our DBA had to tweak a few things, and modify perms to that the correct spaces would be utlilized.
