Good afternoon,

Any ideas why the cognos reportnet engine is deleting data from our database?

When we initialize reportnet the data disappears.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks.

We figured it out.

The password had been reset by a termed employee.

When we rest the password it fixed everything.

This story prompts 2 questions:

1. How on earth can a reporting engine perform deletes on it's source and:
2. What has resetting a password got to do with it?

Sound unsettling al least!!

Hi,

I can answer question 1. It can't! ReportNet can only select rows from a database - there are no capabilities to update or delete.

My guess is that ReportNet was unable to connect to the database as the password used in the signon had been reset to something different. Net result - it looked (from within ReportNet) as though the data had gone?

If I'm right, can I be called "Mystic MF" now? :)

Regards,

MF.

That still makes me wonder WHERE the data was gone. Surely not in the database itself, we can be sure about that. Was it gone in a report? I would still expect that changing a login password would cause some sort of connection error?
But well, I'm just a BO guy trying to grasp Cognos :)

When a different username is used it created objects in the database with that username. In SQL Server if cognosuser is used to login and then cognosadmin is used then it will create another set of objects with the same name and different owners.
