Cognos Product Info...

Hi All,
We are going for a Reporting tool where we need to fetch data from database and provide reports using Cognos Impromptu. So can someone help me about the cognos products we require.
To my understanding we need Impromptu for catalog tables Powerplay for Report analysis and Transformer.

Is there any tool for publishing reports in web.

If these are required what will be the system hardware and software for Server, Development and Users.

The best would be for you to go to the Cognos.com website. There you can find the suggestions about hardware for Cognos applications. I would also suggest that you speeak to a Cognos consultant in order to find out exactly what tools you need otherwise you could run the risk of paying for unnesesary software. Ya I am doing that basically, cud I know what is the current version of cognos since i was not able to find it in the website

Cognos is a full suite software with matching price. Impromptu is the basic reporting tool from them. It does lists, cross tabs, and filters. If you just need to run queries to your database, and then fetch those record(s) that match you will NOT need PowerPlay or transformer.

However if you want to look at summary reports, drill down, slice & dice etc. then you WILL need PowerPlay, and it's Transformer tool to take Impromptu reports (as well as many other formats), make a data cube & then view the data. From the PowerPlay report, you can drill through to the original Impromptu to see details.

In short, I highly recommend that you get the whole package. You can't go wrong as long the price does not scare you.
