Does anybody have any information or suggestions on how to migrate Impromptu Catalogs and/or imr's from Db2 to Oracle.

Thanks,
Tony.

Is the change only the RDBMS platform, and not other structures (Owner Schema name, table names, or column names & sizes)? If so, you may only need to change the logical-to-physical catalog definition, and then check using the Catalog | Tables | verify option to see if any data types are defined differently between the two platforms.

Dave,

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is changing platforms. The database is moving from S/390 to HP-UX and the database is moving from Db2 to Oracle.

Thanks,
Tony.

Tony,

Try the steps I indicated in my previous post. They should work for you. If a column does not validate, all you have to do is remove it and re-add it to the table and folder. If a bad column is used in a join you will have to re-establish that join as well.

Dave,

Thanks for the input. I work for a migration company and we have been given an assessment to perform. Cognos is just part of it. I cannot test out any theories, I just need a high level approach. Talking with some of the tech guys, they same to think all components will require rewriting, I was just looking for another opinion and I appreciate your input.

Tony.

Tony,

With relatively identical schemas and data structures, the only immutable difference is going to be if certain data types are not handled the same in both platforms. From some experience in migrations between SQL Server and Oracle, I know that in some cases a table may not verify, but Impromptu can use it anyway. You may want to create a sample catalog based on a single sample table created with all of the relevant data types from DB2, write a report using all of the data columns, and then migrate it to a identical table in Oracle to see if this will happen.

Wouldn't take long to do and could answer a number of your questions.
