Can anyone provide some direction on the use Of Cognos Architect? How they used it, did it work well? I am currently looking at better ways of managing the Cognos catalogues that we use at our company. Thanks.

I have used Architect as the main source of Impromptu catalogues , Cognos Query packages and Transformer models.

Basically the Data flows through Architect, then through the 3 Cognos applications. We used this approach to minimise duplication of changing new data.

We produce 6 different Impromptu catalogues so when there is a change in the database, we only need to make the change in Architect not in all the other places.

Does Cognos Architect solve the impromptu problem of taking 2 different source.

No. You can only have one data source for Impromptu (unless you use hotfiles). This is true even if you use architect to build your catalog.

Architect is not still maintain by COGNOS.

So don't take a long time on this product ...

To be able to use multiple data sources, ReportNet with Framework Manager(the next generation of Architect) is the way to go. No need for hotfiles, or any other of the previously used 'tricks'.

As for Architect, you are right in saying don't spend too much time with it because there are better offerings from Cognos now. However you are incorrect in saying that it is no longer maintained by Cognos. Architect still remains a supported product.
