Cognos and Mac OS 1

So, we have moved to PowerPlay Web for the very reason that is supposed to be compatible with Mac OS. However, this does not seem to be the case. All Mac users still seem to crash whenever they get to the point of opening a Web-Based cube. Using PP Version 7.3. IE. They've also tried the Mac Standard Browser... I forget the name. Any ideas, suggestions, or information would be greatly appreciated.

Which version of IE are you using?
Safari (the Mac standard browser) can be configured to behave like IE - I can't remember the exact settings, but it should be in the Apple knowledgebase at

http://www.apple.com

Otherwise have you tried using Firefox, again in IE "emulation" mode?

Will Cognos support indicate what features of IE it is using to implement PPWeb? I recall that drag and drop functionality went AWOL after a MS upgrade that required a cognos patch in 7.1.

Hmm,
Just checked the Cognos site and it's not encouraging.
7.1 supported browsers include netscape for macintosh.

whereas
7.3 just lists Windows browsers.

Perhaps try the latest Netscape browser too?

Thanks for your replies... I'll check out the Cognos site and see. Our Mac users have been using Virtual PC, but it is buggy and slow. However, they may have no choice.

Hopefully not, but give it another year and then they can have x86 Macs with a dual boot option!

Ok, well one user did the Firefox thing and she was able to open the cubes (she was giddy with excitement)... however, she could not drag and drop ("i can't grab anything")as you stated above. She says she's not doing anything with 'emulation' so she will investigate. I know NOTHING about Macs and seem to be dangerous with that one button mouse... but she's will to try a few different things. I will keep you posted.

If you get any success with the other browsers or with cognos support, you might want to consider getting users 2 button mice (or mouses if you prefer) - most work out of the box if your users are using Mac OS X - to give right-click functionality. If users can't drag and drop, then they might be prepared to right-click to swap columns/rows etc so that they can manipulate reports.

I use a Mac at home and, despite having used one since 1984, find a two button mouse much easier than holding down a key at the same time as clicking.

Hey, So I just tried it with Firefox and a two button mouse, and she has all of the right click functionality! Pretty cool. However, the two button trick does not work with Safari or IE. I think the TwoButtonFirefox Combo should work for now. I certainly know who to come to for Mac questions regarding Cognos. Look out! Thanks!!
