Hi Everyone,

We have 200+ users defined in Cognos Access Manager who use Cognos Visualiser Web and PowerPlay Web.

Is there a way we can identify which users are logging on the Cognos and which one are inative users?

Many thanks

There is no way I know of doing this using Access Manager, but each of these products produces Audit logs. You could use these logs to identify Active Users.

We use the logs to produce an audit cube that shows us who has clicked on a cube. If we look at a full year, and sort it by number of clicks, all of your inactive users would be grouped up together. We will review the list every 6 months and put them in a folder named "inactive users" in Access Manager. Then, 6 months later, delete that group of users if still no activity. This is due to high turnover. If someone complains they want access, we put them back in. This keeps our number of licenses required down to a minimum. Why have 400 people listed as users, and license them, if only 200 at a time are using?

CognosProfessional/Gary,
On the subject of licences, can you help me here? We have 50 web licences for PPWR and I maintain that this is concurrent users, given the parameters in the admin application. I can find nothing in the software or support licences that challenges this view. My company is wary of approaching the reseller and asking directly, as they will probably see this as an opportunity to sell another 20 licences and state that the licence is for 50 users in total.
My suggestion is to 'share' access manager identities, especially since we have users who have insisted on ids, yet I can show have not touched the application in months....

What are your (or anyone else's) 2 cents on this?

Both IWR and PPES are licensed for concurrent users, so you can create as many user accounts as you need in Access manager but only 50 people will be allowed on your system. The 51st person will have to wait until a license becomes available.

Gary,
How to you prevent the 51st to use the system or waiting for someone to disconnect ?
There is no licence control embedded in the application
