I am looking at a program and see code that I don't recognize.

I do not understand having the *>size 5 and *>size 5 scale 2 notations following the Pic and Comp-2

This was found in a Cobol program used by ISCobol.

Is the notation just a comment of information or is it something there that must be there?

10 W-FLD1 PIC S9999 COMP-2. *>size 5
10 W-FLD2 PIC S99v99 COMP-2. *>size 5 scale 2

Thank you in advance for your consideration of my question.

*> is the floating comment indicator. It has been around for a few years now so you should be able to find it in fairly recent manuals.
