Hello all. Trying to administer a network printer in CMS but I'm missing the last step. I'm using an older document which describes the jet admin procedure.

Here's what I've done:

Logged in as root and at the # I added the printer ip address and name in the etc host file, then did the printer config. I pinged the printer and it came back alive. Lastly I believed I needed to issue the "lpadmin -p Printer Name -T" command, which when I do comes back with an error saying "must use the -v or -U command with lpadmin." This is the part that is preventing me from completing it in Unix. Any suggestions? Thanks, much appreciated!

The command syntax is as follows:

lpadmin -p PRINTER_NAME -T hplaser

I told you incorrectly when you called earlier.

Thats what I entered but it comes back with a "must use -v or -U command" error message.

Went to the UNIX help page and it seems like the command is something like "lpadmin -(printer name) -v/dev/connty -mlqp40"

Any thoughts?

Add <printer hostname> <IP address> to /etc/hosts
be sure you can reach it, try ping

Add the printer with
# lpadmin -p <printername> -o protocol=tcp,dest=<printer hostname>:<portno> -v /dev/null -m netstandard
# accept <printername>
# enable <printername>
