Guys, I know this may be a simple issue to some of you but we're really stumped so far. We have a CMS server that we're trying to access through the LAN to no avail (no pings, telnets, etc.), however when we tried to do the same through an S8800 CM server we could access the CMS just fine. This issue happened when we changed the addressing of the CMS (/etc/hosts, etc.), however we could access the CMS while directly connected to it using a laptop in the same VLAN. Could this be a network issue? What could cause this?

When you changed the IP address of the server, did you put it in a different subnet? It sounds like you did not change the default gateway. So long as you are on the same subnet you can reach it, but you cannot subnets since the cms does not know how to get back to you.

Just a couple of hints here...
did you also change the /etc/networks file , etc/defaultrouter, etc/netmasks ?
did you do a reboot, or a restart of the network services?
When you started a new VLAN, did you or your network guys add new routes to the VLAN interface on the switch, or in the router for that VLAN?
And if yes, does it also have a valid route back from the existing LAN's?
Can you reach the laptop from another LAN when connected to the same VLAN as the CMS?
Can you ping the default-gateway, and can you ping outside the subnet from the CMS?
otherwise just use a pc with wireshark off the CMS network port and see what network it is looking for.

Hi guys, thanks again for all the helpful input! After much inspection we found out an incorrect entry in the defaultrouter file, it's now working after being corrected. Thanks again for the help!
