Hi guys and gals,

I got a problem with my PIII 1kMHZ and a Gigabyte GA-6VX7-4x mobo... got a one stick 128mb SDRAM on it and a G200 MILLENIUM AGP Graphicscard ( which works fine) tried it with a Voodo 3 - 2000 also (same results)... a 10mb HD... nothing else... all packed in an ATX case with a 350w Powersupply...

these are the symptoms:

after clearing the CMOS it POSTs and loads the OS with no problems... after I shut it down and reboot nothing works, ergo it don't POST at all anymore... Only if I clear the CMOS again will it POST... AMI-Bios will Beep twice and then once more... it does this every time after I reboot...

I've already done a CMOS Batterie replacement and it didn't fix the prob...

Help is appreciated!

greetings from the OldEurope,

Ben

Stupid question here, Did you move the jumper on the MB to the Clear CMOS setting and forgot to move it back? Been there done that

According to AMI there is no two beeps followed by one beep codes and Gigabyte's site says that that board has an Award BIOS not AMI. Award doesn't control how the manufacture sets up the beep code and each manufacture is free to set their own.

You might want to try a fresh flash of the BIOS.

Hi again,

to wlpsyp: Nope, done that and been there too, the Board doesn't allow a boot with the CMOS jumper on clear anyhow (at least this one doesn't)... thanx...

to bmac50: been to the Gigabyte site myself... downloaded the latest BIOS (btw it is a AMI Bios) and reflashed it... the BIOS that was installed was the same version... to no avail... to further the statement that it is an AMI BIOS, the CD which came with the MOBO had the Manual and an older AMI BIOS version on it (xxxxxx-f30) the one that was installed on the MOBO was xxxxxx-f45...

and it beeps twice which according to AMI BIOS means a hardware fault... what the other beep means after that??? the local computer jokies told me that the double beep is normal for that type of MoBo, I doubt that though, seeing as sometimes it only Beeps once and goes on its business... but I still have to clear the CMOS before restarting the system... I've breadboarded it changed the mem changed graphixboard I've done everything that I know of todo...

all I can say now is AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH!

Thanx guys...

greets Ben

Hi there again,

to further the confusion on my side, I downloaded AMIDiag of the AMI site... ran it (in DOS) and the system passes with flying colors all the way through... I then resetet it and I will be damned the S.O.S. all over again...

I guess I'll fold it into a paperairplane and send the thing back to TAIWAN...

Thanx for the Help anyhows... I am giving up on this Mobo...

greets from Old Europe

Ben
