I need to expire the cmos password on my 9300 laptop. Gateway advises that I need to short the solder connections on the eeprom chip. Does anyone know how to get to the eeprom. I have the 9300 opened up and don't know what I am look for...... Help if you can... thx.....

Is the boot from floppy option disabled on the laptop?

It is disabled because of the cmos password. I can't get past the "enter password" prompt for any kind of startup.

I have used a utility called "KILLCMOS" on desktop, should work OK for your prob also ---DOS UTIL FROM A FD--resets CMOS to factory settings --WORKED FOR ME.

Thx but you will have to tell me how to get to DOS. The laptop will not get past the Poweron Password. I can get to the CMOS settings but when I save and continue the system prompts for a password. If I try to boot to safe mode the system prompts for a password. That is as far as I can get......

sorry jafum,I HAD ONLY READ THE ORIGINAL QUERY,
dicconecting the CMOS/CLOCK battery ("USUALLY"
BUTTON CELLS IN GREEN OR YELLOW HEAT SHRINK) for one or two hours (with pwr off) may clear password if it is in cmos
--that is probably too simple as i dont know your laptop

The battery is in green shrinkwrap but I had the battery disconnected for 2 weeks and it did nothing. All other sources say to short the EProm solder settings but I am not sure what the Eprom chip looks like.
