This may be a stupid question....but....

All of our multisite installs have been across WAN Point to Points or MPLS.

Can you have 2 sites that both have internet connections one at 1.5 meg and one at 25 meg be connected via a hardware based VPN for CM.

So site 1:

8500
1.5 meg internet
VPN hardware to site 2

Site 2:

8300
25 meg internet
VPN hardware to site 1

Will this work? Can we have site 2 be a true LSP with no issues?

are these VPN tunnels across the internet?

It may be possible but I personally wouldn't connect gateways this way. are you guaranteed QoS and 24/7 connectivity?

Yes they are VPN tunnels. Hardware based through the internet.

Have you ever had this work?

I work for an IT company, we often have VPN tunnels setup for WAN access between sites... the question is, how good are the ISPs at both sides? If they are reliable, then you won't have many problems. If they have many outages, be ready for a very unhappy client, with a remote site that is frequently running standalone in LSP mode.

I wouldn't do this. Your setting yourself up for failure. If you must use the internet then setup 2 seperate systems. Then connect them together via IP trunks. You'll still have quality issues with voice but at least you won't have IPSI issues.

i had this set up at my old job. One LSP (s8300 g350) connected via VPN tunnel then accross the WAN to the main s8700. It was only installed this way for a temp solution, the site was going to become an ESS after build out was done. It worked ok however we only had 25 4610 connected. We had a few drop outs in connection, but it was ok for a TEMP solution.
