For a remote office with only IP phones (no gateways or processor), how will CM 5.2 determine which gateway is the best option for providing dial and ring tones to the remote phones?

I just deployed IP phones to a small office, and I'm surprised to see those phones attempting to use a gateway in another random remote office.

Thanks,
Marc

Based on the network region connectivity matrix.

So, in the network map you make subnets match regions

In the regions, you define how a region connects to each other region. Now, if the region your phones are in have "direct wan?" as yes to every other region (including the ones with gateways), then CM sees that region as equidistant from all gateways. 10 requests for DSPs, if you have 10 gateways, will round robin to 1 each.

If the region with phones only is "direct" to only one region - say, region 1, and then reaches all other regions through intervening region 1, then you've started using your DSPs predictably.

Best practice is for the CM server to be in region 250 and have ONLY 250 direct to every region and every other region hits each other through 250 to build a hub and spoke topology with 250 in the middle.
