Does anyone have any expirience with this upgrade..? what I'm trying to figure out is if I can upgrade the lsp's remotely, from what I've read you need to be on-site to load the upgrade CD, then can the lsp's still work with the 3.1.3 S/W? the phones should still be registered to the 8700 but can the lsp's still communicate to the 8700?

Good morning,
You will want to upgrade the LSP's first and the will still work with your S8700. It is recommended that you perform that 3.1.x upgrade from 2.x upgrade onsite as it does load a newer version of RedHat Linux onto the Media Server.

Yes, you can upgrade remotely but depending on the version of server you have on your LSP sites you may need someone onsite to press the button when the server reboots as some (S8300A & B) are known for not popping the CD drive!!
There are 3 methods of upgrading. 1)Send the CD to site and run the upgrade remotely. 2)FTP the CD contents to the hard drive on the LSP. 3)Put the CD into a central system runing TFTP server and when the upgrade prompts you, point it at the location (IP Address of TFTP machine). Because of the versions you are working with it is necessary to install a pre-upgrade patch. This is speceific to the existing CM v ersion and is downloadable from support.avaya.com.

Avaya has made this fairly simple. You may need to load the pre-upgrade patch first. I belive 2.1.1 supports the 'manage software' feature. Once you load the patch, you can go to manage software from the web interface. This allows you to download the software from a tftp server instead of having the software locallly. NOTE: If the download fails at some point, just start it again. It will pick up at the point of the last successful file transfer. Once the software is copied you can install or wait. Suggest you start a couple days before in case you run into tftp problems.

THERE SHOULD BE NO S8300A SERVERS AT THIS POINT SINCE THEY WERE ONLY SUPPORTED THROUGH CM2.0.1.

James,

There is no "Manage Software" option with this 2.1.1 release so we'll have to figure out a different way to get he S/W where needed.

best to upgrade to CM2.2.2 and then use the manage software. You can do this at the same time as it does not take long to upgrade this.

I have discovered when you load the pre-upgrade service pack it enables the manage software feature...yahooo
