We are getting a new SAN to add to an existing 2 node cluster. I am wanting to convert the disk on this SAN to GPT disk and create 1 4TB volume. I know there is a hotfix from Microsoft for the cluster server to see the GPT disk. From this 4TB volume I only want 2 partitions one for data and one for quorum. Are there any issues with the quorum on the GPT disk after the hotfix is installed?

4tb will be a nightmare on a chkdsk if you every get a error, probibly best part of a day or 2 if its full.

If you can i would advise to use mount points with smaller luns.

Agreed. Smaller LUNs or better. Also if you ever need to move that LUN to different disks it will take for ever, not to mention the rebuild time if a disk fails.

I try to keep my LUNs below 500 Gigs for easy management, and movement, and checkdisks don't take that long with 500 Gig luns.

I will put that into consideration. Thanks for the info.

But is it ok for the Quorum to be on GPT or dynamic disk?

Clustered drives can not be dynamic disks. All clustered disks much be basic disks.

That hot fix is relatively new (April 2007). I haven't built a cluster since then.

I wouldn't have bothered with dynaic disks as I said above I like to keep my LUNs smaller than that.

I would be checking with a microsoft pss person to check on the exact situation this can be used.

If its a shared storage cluster I am kinda doubtful this will work as opposed to a majority node set cluster which i expect would.

Sorry i cant be more helpful
