POS GURUS: I have built a new server for my restaurant and installed the Aloha POS by using the discs from my local dealer. Everything seemed to have gone well, except whenever I reboot or I try to access the Aloha Manager, I receive "CLTSVR Security key not found" error message. I have read all of your posts and have tried to follow all of your instructions to the letter. All of the old info and profiles and everything have come over, but I STILL get that error message and am VERY frustrated. Can anyone PLEASE advise? Thank you in advance.

Is they option for menus and submenus greyed out, or just not available to select?

It's not available to select at all. I had copied all of the submenus under Aloha from my old server (which is still up and running) and on the old server, I can see the menus and sub menus but not on the new server. I just don't get it and I'm about to just bring out a hammer and a bottle of Tequila.

If ALOHAMGR.EXE (Aloha Manager) is missing drop-down menus or drop-down menu options, verify that the CTL4X.DLL, MNT4X.DLL, and USERTOOL.DLL applications are registered. The easiest way to verify successful registration is to manually register them, and verify that they return a successful response. Refer to document AKBID1019 for more information on manually registering and un-registering the ALOHA® application software.

The following .DLL files affect the following drop-down menus:

CTL4X.DLL - Functions, Reports, Utilities
MNT4X.DLL - Maintenance
USERTOOL.DLL - Tools

Register them one by one by copying the line in the Iber_52844.bat file and pasting them in dos. Make sure they register ok.

You could also completely delete the security level .dbf files. It will just create a new blank ones when you start Aloha Manager up.

I have a real quick question. I copied those lines out of the 'register_iber_52844.bat' file and pasted them in dos and hit enter and nothing happened, except it it returned back to the c prompt. Should something have confirmed a succesful register? I called the local dealer and asked them if we could work out a deal to get the menus toggled on. The owner said sho would still charge me the full $650 and to add insult to injury, she said "That's what you get for trying to build your own server." I cannot believe the audacity this woman has for me just trying to save a total of $1600 plus tax to build and configure my own server. Anyway, should I have gotten something telling me I successfully registered these .dll's?

I don't know, I'm getting discouraged. After registering those three dll's and rebooting countless times, the Alohamgr program just stalls now. I start it and it asks for my user ID and password. I put in the super user values and it just stays locked there. I check the task manager and it says not responding. I have rebooted and still no fix. By the way, also, where do I find the security .dbf files that you suggested I delete? I don't know if they are under the newdata folder and I don't know the names. Thank you again.

Start Aloha Manager and paste the last couple paragraphs from these 2 files here - DEBOUT.TXT and DEBOUT.svr. They are located in Aloha\TMP. These are 2 files that show info about Aloha Manager and Control Server problems.

Also, one cool feature of Aloha is that each day of sales history is like a "snap shot" of that particular day. So, if you think you have data base corruption, you can always go back a few days before your problems started, and post of the contents of that day into your Data/Newdata directories. (a few files you don't want to transfer for over, mainly the trans.log is the only one you need to worry about)

I'd probably go this route before I'd start removing individual files within the databse and trying to get it to work. Go back to when it DID work, and try using that data.

Just my humble opinion.

I see. I brought the computer home to fix it, but I guess since I don't have the security key attached to the back, it creates problems. Here's what I have:

I can see that MNT4X.Dll and ALOHASEC.EXE are not initializing at all, but I'm not sure if that's because you don't have the key on or these files were different in this version. This could easily be what's causing the issues. Change the Aloha Manager shortcut to include the remote switch.

Example "C:\Aloha\BIN\AlohaMgr.exe /remote" and see if you still have the same problems.

Also try these at a dos prompt ->

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Regsvr32.exe C:\Aloha\bin\Mnt4x.DLL
C:\Aloha\bin\ALOHASEC.EXE /regserver
C:\Aloha\bin\AlohaMgr.EXE /regserver

It should say successful after each one

Ok, I did that and including the remote switch bypasses the stalling which is great. Thank you. I then ran each one of the command lines in DOS and it said each was successful, but I still don't have the menu or submenu options. To be safe, I went back through and registered the CTL4X.DLL,MNT4X.DLL, and USERTOOL.DLL files using the same command you gave me. The only difference is that I changed the path to read C:\WINNT\system32\Regsvr32.exe C:\Aloha\bin\Mnt4x.DLL (I changed WINDOWS to WINNT because this is Windows 2000 Pro). At any rate, still no menus or submenus. They didn't pop up when I had the security key. Could it be they are not initializing because they aren't the same version? The version my local dealer gave me on CD is 5.029 and mine is 5.045. They said as long as the bin files are updated, that wouldn't matter. (these dll's are located in the bin folder) I have another cd they burned for me that has the 5.045 bin folder and I over wrote the existing bin files with that one. Should I go into my Aloha and overwrite the new bin files from the cd with MY CURRENT BIN files that are on the old existing server?

I would remove the whole Aloha folder on the server, reinstall without putting in your restaurant database using the new cd and the default database, and see if you can access the menus now. If you can, then it is a problem with the database without a doubt.

Doode: Did you see my earlier post?

>>>One cool features of Aloha is that each day of sales history is like a "snap shot" of that particular day. So, if you think you have data base corruption, you can always go back a few days before your problems started, and paste all of the contents of that day into your Data/Newdata directories. (a few files you don't want to transfer for over, mainly the trans.log is the only one you need to worry about. You'll have to change the date Aloha, too. But I would definitely use the older Aloha.ini). But because this server is not yet in use, none of this is that critical.

I'd probably go this route before I'd start removing individual files within the databse and trying to get it to work. Go back to when it DID work, and try using that data.<<<<<

If database corruption is the problem, this will help.

Generally speaking, if there is a version problem, you'll get an error message saying "Database Version Not Current" when you log in. I do agree it makes for a smoother installation you do have the same version, but I've not see it where menu options just dissapeared. So I am not convinced that because it's a older version, is why you're having issues.

Using older data from a week or so before the install or any problems occured, is not that hard really, and an easy way to rule out problems with your current database. I'd do that first.

I just wanted to let you guys know the problem was the stupidest thing in the world. It turns out that I installed Quick Service for Aloha instead of Table Service. Quick service is for fast food places and uses tablets instead of menus, so that's why the menus and submenus were missing. Thank you all so much for your help. You guys are as sharp as they get. Now I know where to go to really get expert advice. Thanks again!!
