Closing and Opening Application 1

Can someone help me with information on closing and opening application from another application,
i need to copy files while an application shuts down and then bring it up .

Hi, Bob it seems as if the shell command works for dos commands,
i have 2 vb6 applications say vbapp1.exe and vbapp2.exe,
when i run vbapp2.exe i want it to start vbapp1.exe.
I have tried the shell but it doesnt seem to work.
