closed application still in memory

can someone help me with this?
how do i free up the application's resource when i exit the application using vb.net.
I thought that vb.net has a garbage collection that handles this? but it doesn't seem like the case for this particular application i wrote...
after i close the application, i still see it running in the processes tab in Windows Task Manager...
